BASIC FUNCTION:
Reporting to the Assistant CFO under the department of Finance, this position is responsible for managing the month-end close process, including preparation of monthly consolidated financials, journal entries, accrual schedules, variance analysis & commentary, internal financial statements, and bank reconciliations. Assures the integrity of financial and statistical data, via preparation or review of general ledger entries, reports, schedules, worksheets, reconciliations or other analysis. Provide leadership in a team environment supporting division and departmental activities. Develops, implements, and maintains programs and tools for financial reporting. Interprets and implements accounting rules, fiscal compliance, policies and regulations. Develop variable-sensitive business models and/or compliance or fiscal management tools. Provide advanced analytical, financial, accounting, and compliance support to department and institutional leadership. Recognized and relied upon as a subject matter expert of a finance, accounting or compliance technical area.
 
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Maintain ownership of numerous accounts and/or financial statement line items, including all related accounting, spreadsheets, and reconciliations
  • Collaborate with the ACFO and CFO to design and implement internal controls
  • Provide information, supporting schedules, and work-papers to support audits and tax preparation
  • Assist in researching accounting issues; write, revise, document, monitor, and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and accounting positions
  • Perform various and or support accounting functions: payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and general accounting
  • Prepare and/or coordinate monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts to report timely and accurate financial data
  • Assumes responsibility for accounting classifications of all revenue, expenditures and documents
  • Generates reports for the Balance Sheet and Income Statement and distributes the reports to those individuals working directly with the financial statements.
  • Communicate significant changes in the financial statements to Finance Management.
  • Analyze financial information and reports to management with an interpretive understanding of accounts and provides a schedule with analyzed variances.  These analyses should compare historical and projected results and communicate changes in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and identifying and assessing the appropriate accounting treatment for complex transactions.
  • Identifying, recommending and implementing performance metrics, i.e. Benchmarks, as a means of identifying areas where additional process improvements are required.CORE COMPETENCIES:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of 5 years relevant accounting experience
  • Advanced understanding of accounting and finance practices and large accounting systems
  • Advance knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Advanced investigational skills, shows attention to detail, accuracy and ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Solid customer-service skills; anticipates, understands and addresses customer needs in a timely manner
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
