Endoscopy Assistant

To transport patients safely, care for equipment and supplies, reprocessing of endoscopes and accessories.




Interacts with the nursing staff, patients, vendors and physicians in the performance of duties.


Cleans, disinfects and stores endoscopes and accessories. Properly operates the automatic scope cleaning machines.
Assists with inspection and maintenance of endoscopes and equipment in the Unit.
Reports broken, damaged or malfunctioning equipment and properly prepares items to be shipped out if necessary.
Monitors and documents disinfectant concentration and H20 temp on scope washers. Performs inventory orders, stocks and maintains Endo supplies.
Safely transports patient via stretcher or wheelchair. Checks and stocks endo mobile transport cart.
Performs environmental cleaning throughout the Endoscopy Suite to include hallways, bathrooms and utility room. Cleaning will include floor stripping, mopping, damp dusting, cleaning equipment, furniture, stretchers and sinks.
Participates in continuous quality improvement and departmental activities aimed at service improvement.

Participates in activities that contribute technical and professional growth and development for the purpose of maintaining job proficiency.
Promotes adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics and the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct.
Attends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy training.
Participates in activities that promote adherence to federal healthcare program requirements.
Actively participates in Health Sciences Compliance Program activities. Adheres to the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, and staff.

Knowledge of the proper care and cleaning method for different endoscopes. Ability to clean and operate the different scope cleaning systems.
Knowledge of the safe handling of high level disinfectants and sterilants.
Knowledge and ability to adhere to infection control principles that will maintain a safe environment, free from the possibility of spreading disease to patients and co-workers.
Competence in both oral and written English.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with staff, physicians, Hospital and University officials, and the general public.
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED). Six months experience working with endoscopes.
Nursing Assistant or Procedure Support Technician with departmental training preferred.
