GRANT FUNDED Position: This position is responsible for providing clinical services; teaching, supervising, and mentoring residents, medical students, and pre- and post-doctoral trainees; developing clinical services and initiatives; and conducting or collaborating in clinical research. To fulfill these functions, the Clinical Psychologist is expected to have knowledge and experience in a broad range of evidence-based psychological treatments for a broad range of psychiatric or behavioral health problems; to have knowledge and experience with active-based learning and teaching; and to have knowledge and experience with clinical research methods.
Direct clinical service provision.
Education, training, and supervision of residents, medical students, and pre- and post-doctoral trainees in Psychology, Social Work, or other health services.
Development or collaboration in development of new clinical services or programs. Clinical research.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Works collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting. Interacts with patients, parents, families and staff within the Howard University Hospital and College of Medicine. Will also interact with Howard University students, faculty, staff, and officials both in a professional and clinical capacity.
Provides high quality patient care in Howard University Hospital Inpatient and Outpatient services.
Conducts clinical and diagnostic assessments of patients; establishes clinical diagnoses; provides individual, group, and family treatment services.
Documents all patient care or other clinical activity appropriately and in a timely fashion in the Electronic Medical Record or approved medical record systems.
Teaches residents, medical students, counseling trainees, psychology graduate students, and psychology interns. Develops curriculum and syllabus materials for lectures, seminars, or other training activities.
Evaluates reports from clinical staff and takes appropriate action.
Supervises residents, medical students, counseling trainees, psychology graduate students, and psychology interns on clinical cases and in individual, family, or group therapy treatment.
Develops and implements prevention, intervention, and treatment services or programs relevant to quality patient care.
Serves as a consultant about clinical, educational, or programmatic issues to medical staff in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences or in other departments.
Develops, collaborates, or participates in clinical research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences; to the extent possible, involves psychiatry residents and medical students in clinical research or other scholarly activities.
Promotes adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics and the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct.
Attends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy training.
Participates in activities that promote adherence to federal healthcare program requirements. Actively participates in Health Sciences Compliance Program activities.
Adheres to the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures. Maintains confidentiality of patients, families , and staff.

Maintains licensure status in DC and continuing education to maintain strong knowledge base within profession.
Knowledge and experience in Clinical Psychology, including knowledge and experience in a broad range of evidence-based psychological treatments, psychological assessments, and understanding of psychology standards and practices.
Excellence in teaching, mentoring, and supervising residents, pre- and post-doctoral students, and clinical staff and personnel.
Understanding of clinical research methods and experience in clinical research.
Ability to exercise independent judgment that follows ethical guidelines and Hospital procedures Excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and harmonious work relationships with residents, students, colleagues, staff, physicians, Hospital and University officials and employees, patients, family members, and the general public.

Satisfactory completion of an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited doctoral program (Ph.D. or Psy.D) in clinical and an (APA) accredited clinical internship.
District of Columbia (D.C.) License to practice psychology.
Two (2) years of responsible work experience in clinical psychology, including at least one year practicing as a licensed Clinical Psychologist and teaching or supervising trainees.
