BASIC FUNCTION:
Perfoms repairs and maintenance for medical equipment, water treatment system and physical plant and associated systems. Assures water used for dialysis meets Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) requirements with daily monitoring and routine testing. Assists with maintaining and controlling medical supply inventory.

NATURE  AND SCOPE:
Intcract(s) with staff, physicians, patients and their families, other healthcare providers and the general public.
 
PRINCIPAL   ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Performs all repairs and maintenance as related to medical equipment, water treatment systems, physical plant and associated systems.
 
Assures water used for dialysis meets AAMI requirements with daily monitoring and routine testing. Understands policies and procedures for alternative water supplies.

Maintains accurate records as they apply to the job requirements and assignments. Assists Manager in maintaining and controlling medical supply inventory.

Maintains a clean and professional work area. Assists in non·patient related emergency procedures.

Promotes adherence to the Health Sciences Compliance Program, the Howard University Code of Ethics and the Health Sciences Standards of Conduct.
 
Anends annual and periodic mandatory Compliance Program training including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy training.

Participates in activities that promote adherence to federal healthcare program requirements. Actively participates in Health Sciences Compliance Program activities.

Adheres to the requirements of the HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures. Maintains confidentiality of patients, families, and staff.

Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.

CORE  COMPETENCIES:
Ability to exercise independent judgment.
 
Knowledge of medical or technical principles in dialysis. Competence in both oral and written English.
Ability to establish and maintain effective and hannonious work relationships with staff, physicians, Hospital and University officials, and the general public.
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
 
High school diploma or GED.
 
Experience in medical or technical environment is preferred.
 
Successful completion of the facility's orientation and Dialysis Equipment Technician Trainee courses as established for the Dialysis Treatment Center.
 
Must pass all color vision requirements.
 
Must be able to work rotating day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts or as assigned.
 
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift (up to 50 lbs), climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, pull, push,
reach, handle, write, type, file, speak, hear, see (color vision), calculate, compare, interpret and organize for extended periods of time.
