POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Technology is a high-level technical leadership role within the Information Systems department with direct reporting relationship to the CIO. The Director is responsible for defining HUH’s enterprise architecture and building a state-of-the-art technology team. The Director is accountable for the management of the hospital’s networks, data center, cybersecurity technology, databases, system integration, hardware lifecycle, backup, disaster recovery, business continuity, and other technology areas. The Director will lead multiple technology selection and deployment projects. The Director will serve as the highest level escalation point for technology issues.
 
 
REPORTING SUMMARY
Sr. Network Systems Analyst, Network Analyst, Network Specialists, Infrastructure Analysts, and Information Security Engineers.
 
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Internal contacts may include employees in the IS department, senior administrators, faculty, physicians and staff.
External contacts may include stakeholders at Howard University’s ETS department, Faculty Practice Plan, vendors, and contractors.
 
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Under minimal supervision, accountable for the IS technology infrastructure within HUH.

Accountable for defining HUH’s enterprise architecture and strategic/tactical technology roadmaps.

Responsible for directing an internal team of network and systems administrators and external contractors.

Responsible for building, motivating, and improving the skills and performance of a state-of-the-art technology team.

Build strong relationships with other leaders in the IS department and with HUH’s partners, particularly at Howard University and the Faculty Practice Plan.

Accountable for the management of technology vendor relationships.

Should stay well versed in the latest progress of information technology in order to recommend the most appropriate technology solutions for HUH.

Develop reliable metrics for compute and storage needs while ensuring strategic capacity planning.

Direct the management of server, wired/wireless networks, and cloud infrastructure lifecycle.

Responsible for reporting on team productivity on a monthly basis and actively improving productivity over time.

Defines technology team priorities and reports on team activities and technology project progress on a weekly basis.
Serves as a project manager on technology-related projects.

Collaborates with internal IS stakeholders, contractors, and vendors to develop cost-effective solutions (technical, security, resiliency, support, maintenance, etc.) for on-premise and cloud-based infrastructures.

Estimates resource requirements for technology projects to be used in Business Cases and budgets/forecasts.

Assumes other duties and responsibilities that are related and appropriate to the position and area.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
B.S. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or other similar area. At least 7 years of progressive experience in the management of technology in complex, regulated environments. Healthcare experience is a plus but not required. Industry certifications are a plus. Strong enterprise architecture, project management, and people management skills are necessary.
 
Healthcare IT experience, cybersecurity experience a plus.
 
Must be able to stand, walk, sit, lift (12-25lbs), bend, write, type, file, speak, hear, see, calculate, compare, edit, evaluate, interpret and organize for extended periods of time.
